Retirement FAQs

Q: My horse has a special diet, can you accommodate this?
A: Yes. We try to provide the diet that best suits your horse’s needs.

Q: Can I come and ride my horse?
A: Since your horse is transitioning or has transitioned to retirement, we discourage riding. We feel  that unless a horse is kept fit, it is more stressful on them (especially older horses) to be ridden occasionally or inconsistently.

Q: Can I come and visit my horse?
A: Absolutely. You are always welcome to come visit your horse.

Q: Are all farrier and veterinarian bills included in the board prices?
A: No. Any farrier or vet fees are the responsibility of the owner. However, we try and keep those costs at a minimum while still providing excellent care for your horse.

Q: What happens if there is an emergency with my horse?
A: We will use our best judgment to contact our veterinarian in the event of an emergency. We always make attempts to contact you in the event of an emergency with the contact information you provide.

Q: Can my horse be shod if needed?
A: Yes. While we try and transition horses to being barefoot after their performance years are over, if your horse has special needs, he/she can be shod.

Q: My horse has special medical needs (blindness, arthritis, Cushings, etc.).  Do you provide individualized care to accommodate special needs horses?
A: Yes. We have extensive experience caring for horses with special needs, and will tailor make a program for your horses needs.

Q: What boarding options do you offer (stall board, pasture board, etc.)?
A: We offer both stall and pasture board. We attempt to place the horses in compatible groups. However, “trouble-makers” are separated from groups to protect the herd. Individual turn-out is also an option, if available.

Q: Can I receive photos and updates about my horse?
A: Absolutely. We try and keep owners up to date on the progress of their horses on a fairly regular basis.
